My boyfriend and I were excited to try this place after seeing the positive reviews, however we did not get the same experience that many others did. Maybe it was an "off day", but the place was quite busy and looked understaffed. Honestly, the food just tasted like nothing. I was in disbelief. We ordered fried pickles (good by comparison), the chicken & waffles (dry, overcooked and we covered in hot sauce to add flavor) and we also waited 40 minutes for a $5 cream soda that was basically sprite with whip cream on it. For what it's worth, we heard the table behind us saying something similar. It sucks to write a negative review for a local restaurant, and I rarely do. We left feeling ripped off and hungry for something better. I'm hoping the feedback is valuable.

Great food, music, and service! The fried chicken, waffles, greens, mac & cheese, the blue plate special with the biscuit, coleslaw, & the sweetest watermelon! The lemonade was delicious! Worth every penny! They even have a milk bar with shakes & cookies! I plan to come back the next time I'm in San Diego!

Best fried chicken in San Diego! Huge chicken portions. Perfectly moist and crispy chicken wings! Right next to The Milk Bar which has great shakes and malts. Highly recommend the simple but fantastic Southern Original style or the Twice Fried Salt and Pepper style wings. Also available are chicken skins, innards and other southern favorites like Mac n Cheese or Red Beans n Rice. Of course you can't forget Chicken n Waffles! Great beer selection, canned or draft.

Great food!! The staff and atmosphere was fun and nice. Great drinks, craft beers, and food! The flavors were on point and one of the few places I can order a guilty pleasure of fried chicken skins!!

A friend of mine brought me to this place the other day. She was raving about how good they were as a soul food place. The food was good but not great especially for what you pay :( A little overpriced even if you do use mostly organic ingredients (maybe throw in a very small side of mac or collard greens with the meals?) They were prompt at bringing our food but that's probably because they had just opened. Service was great though! Everyone was really friendly and the music provided a great atmosphere! Great selection of beer and alcohol although we didn't order any.
